The codes of law made during the regn of king Magnus VI Hakonsson in Norway have not been carefully studied, despite they are among the first codes of law produced in Europe, and represent one of the larges lawmaking projects in Middle Ages. In this essay the intention is to display how the three codes of the law made for Norway, and the two codes made for Iceland, were based on the idea "civitas fundaretur legibus", present in The King's Mirror already 20 yars earlier, and how this were made law in action.
