A legal anthropological report, this paper focuses on disputes in Cape Verde, and frames the mechanisms used for their processing and resolution in the context of the extant local legal pluralism. The first section concerns the various units, which form the State judicial system implanted in the Republic. In the second section, we turn our attention to the various ihybrid judicial formsi in operation, that is the semi-formal mechanisms functioning at the level of dispute processing. The third and last section dwells on the operation of informal ones, such as witch craft and spirit possession, as well as on other iloosei elements of the local ijurisdictional pluralismi. Some of the connections among these three tiers are mapped out. Suggestions are made as to areas of interest for future research.
