INTELIGÊNCIA ARTIFICIAL, SOFTWARE In this article we examine whether Artificial Intelligence can be gainfully used in legal domains i.e. is Artificial Intelligence a friend or foe. We discuss rule.based reasoning, case.based reasoning and machine learning and conclude when the techniques are used in appropriate domains and data is appropriately massaged (cleaned and used), Artificial Intelligence can be used to help provide legal decision support. But we indicate that there are few legal domains in which Artificial Intelligence can be usefully fully automated. Thus, the idea of a Robojudge is in general fanciful. We conclude by examining issues of bias, ethics and governance when using machine learning to provide legal advice. |
