DIRECTIVA COMUNITÁRIA, GESTÃO DE CRISES, PROTECÇÃO DE TESTEMUNHA, PREVENÇÃO CRIMINAL, DELAÇÃO PREMIADA This paper examines the impact of the EU whistleblower directive on the role of whistleblowers in proactive crisis management. It concludes that, once the EU directive comes into force in the EU Member States, the positive significance of whistleblowers in proactive crisis management will increase. This effect is argued to be achieved through an increase in whistleblower reports, as organizations are incentivized to set up whistleblowing arrangements while (potential) whistleblowers become empowered. The derived results contribute to the change of the perception of whistleblowers from a denunciator to a valuable asset in organizations, with a positive impact on crisis prevention and response, namely by minimizing the time an organization, willingly or unwillingly, refuses to acknowledge the existence of a crisis. |
