| KOZMELI, Rajko Integrative and complementary approach in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in the Western Balkans (WBCTi) / Rajko Kozmeli Investigação Criminal, Lisboa, Nº 10 (Maio 2016), p. 24-36 CD 350. TERRORISMO, CRIME VIOLENTO, ANÁLISE CRIMINAL, ESLOVÉNIA Slovenia initiated the development of an Integrative and Complementary Approach in the Fight against Terrorism and Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans (hereinafter:WBCTi) in 2014. The originally Slovenian initiative, developed with the support of the Brdo Process Ministerial Conference in 20141, was presented to the Council working bodies, and was later supported by a majority of Member States, EU institutions, agencies, other international partners as well as countries of the Western Balkans. It was successfully established as an EU initiative in 2015. It is aimed to eliminate further duplications and overlapping in countering terrorism and violent extremism activities in the Western Balkan region through a new cost-effective concept. The latter builds upon the needs and priorities identified together with the Western Balkan countries and external partners active in the region. It and utilises a combined bottom-up and top-down approach – while also taking into account on-going and planned activities as well as available funding. |
