While much of the following article may seem elementary to experienced identification officers and others with a wide knowledge of fingerprints, the some 120,000 fingerprint cards which must be returned by the FBI to contributors each month indicate training in fingerprinting techniques is still needed by many law enforcement officers and other persons responsible for submitting fingerprint impressions to the FBI.
