This volume presents the national reports from twenty countries in transition that took part in the third sweep of the International Crime Victim Survey (1996-97). In addition to presenting details as regards crime issues dealt with by the ICVS, this volume is a sourcebook of information. It accompanies a "little book" (Criminal victimisation in Countries in Transition, by Ugljesa Zvekic and also published by UNICRI), which in turn provides comparative reading of data and a synthesis of the key findings. Theorefore, the two volumes - this big one and the "little" book - are complementary and make reference to one another. The final reports were prepared by the national co-ordinators from each participating country with the assistance of the members of the local team in charge of data analysis.
