Probation officers often face severe difficulties in accessing social housing for people on their caseloads, which may lead in turn to offenders becoming less responsive to supervision. Chris Allen and Diane Barkley discuss research showing how a tenancy support worker overcame these problems by operating as an intermediary between probation and housing officers. They also outline good practice in the development of such services under the supporting people arrangements.
