Electronic monitoring is used for relatively serious offenders and to provide an alternative to a custodial sentence. Offenders on electronic monitoring are less likely to be revoked for a technical violation. There is a reduced likelihood of reoffendimg and absconding associatede with the use of electronic monitoring.
