The idea of ISIS is not restricted to Syrian war theatre; in fact, the group challenges the idea of nation states and believes in reviving the Islamic caliphate around the world using violence and terror as the prime instrument. ISIS’ also known as Daesh has killed Muslims and Non-Muslims alike, to achieve their goal of bring the world to apocalypse. The group has carried out massacres in Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and major terrorist acts in Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Along with that, they recently claimed the bombing of a hospital in Quetta, Pakistan. The group’s interest in South Asia is linked to its ideological understanding of ‘Khorasan’, an ancient prophesized name of Afghanistan, Central Asia and some parts of northern Pakistan. Even though ISIS has not yet gotten the opportunity to organize in Pakistan due to various reason, but it does have the potential to cause serious security concerns due to its rapid growth and presence in Afghanistan and other South Asian countries. Pakistan on its part has consolidate the gains and successes it has achieved in counter terror operations and needs to remain alert against the threat posed by ISIS.
