Terrorism and organized crime are both challenging matters in today’s world which entail different strategies and meanings. While they may seem partially unrelated concepts but academics sought for long linkages between them. Terrorism and Organized crime pose threats to the society in general as well as creating disorder. This paper addresses the question whether terrorism and organized crime can be considered as interlinked phenomena. A problem that arises in considering this topic is whether a crime can be considered as terrorism if it is only a means of funding terrorism The issue of terrorism being interlinked with organized crime can be seen in myriad of ways. Primarily, the linkage from a conceptual level identify what concepts bind terrorism and organized crime? Secondly, this paper will demonstrate the linkage by proving that terrorist groups resort to organized criminal activities in order to fund their activities. Similarly, it also shows that there are criminal groups (OCG’s) which finance terrorist activities. This paper utilizes case studies of different terrorist groups in the European Union as reported by various member states in their contribution to Europol (Te-SAT) in order to discuss specific examples of organized crime activities in relation to terrorism.
