This article aims to study the reasons for a number of urban riots in North Africa and Egypt, both their immediate causes (rises in the price of basic foodstuffs) and less immediate causes (socio-economic, geographic, political exclusion). The second part considers the reasons behind a recourse to violence and the question of political representation and poses questions related to another form of political involvement -citizen- ship by « gatecrashing ».
